In June 2005, the Toronto Film Challenge oversold its first annual 48-Hour Challenge and Gala.

On Friday June 10th, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. 50 teams of 10 met at the CBC Building to gather their challenge packs and begin the caffeine induced quest to write, shoot, edit and deliver a 10 minute short in 48-Hours.

Eligible films were screened over three nights at the Bloor Cinema and the Royal Cinema. The top ten films were chosen and screened at the Gala and Award Evening held at the Great Hall on Saturday June 18th, 2005.

A total of $15,000 in cash and prizes was given away to the winners of the following categories. This year the TFC provided a special treat to the winners: The teams name engraved on the original 35mm canisters containing the release prints for the film 'Meatballs'
